Domestic Violence Part 2

Domestic violence is, unfortunately, something that both men and women can face. By definition, domestic violence is “violent or aggressive behavior within the home, typically involving the violent abuse of a spouse or partner.”

Although both men and women can face domestic violence, I do feel as though women are usually the victims in domestic violence cases. I very much so believe that domestic violence is an issue that women still face today. To me, I feel that women are usually the victims in domestic violence situations because the men in the relationship want to “prove” that they have more power over the female.

I also believe that domestic violence is an issue that women face now more so than the past. After doing research, I found that one in four women, or 25% of women, have experienced domestic violence in her lifetime. This was found through a study in 2000. However, I feel as though the rate is growing because many women do not report if they were a victim of domestic violence. With that being said, we do not truly know the exact number of women who are victims of domestic violence. Therefore, I feel like it’s more of an issue today than it was in the past.

I think that the issue of domestic violence is definitely a global issue. No matter what race, gender, sexuality, region, country, etc everyone can experience domestic violence. Therefore, it is an issue that can be considered global. Again, certain regions might show more domestic violence cases, however we do not know exactly what regions have the most cases because not all are reported.

Again, although domestic violence can affect men I often feel as though the victims of these cases are women. Also, I believe that through domestic violence men are trying to show “authority” or “power” over women. Lastly, I feel that this is a global issue rather than an issue only in certain geographic regions. Overall, I do believe that the issue of domestic violence is still a huge issue for women.
